So the Boktai team wisened up and realized people don’t like to play their portable systems outside; and according to ’s recent review, this decision makes for critical acclaim. Not that Boktai was a bad set of games, or scored poorly(I think?). I really did give the first one an honest effortfor a few hours, but back then the GBA screen wasn’t as bright as the blinding glare of the sun. It was a quick turnaround to EB.So for the somewhat uninitiated, how do the other parts of Boktai stack up? The stealthing, shooting, hacking, isometric action? I’m very intrigued and so is my DS.
Yeesh, so I snagged this game last night and only played through Chapter 1 which is merely a tutorial for sword guy. So, this could be the best game no one on the forum is buying or playing I think Tom needs to review it and post some snappy quip on the frontpage to give it more attention.Besides one of your elemental partners being sadly named ‘Toasty’ by the localization team, this is one of the best dungeon crawls the DS will musteror likely has mustered. It provides a sense of tension and danger that goes beyond potion chugging.
Lunar Knights DS. I’ll certainly try it but I’m a little disappointed that it’s not a Lunar game. The DS could use some more really excellent RPGs. It’s got a decent number of, uh, decent ones. I think Tom needs to review it and post some snappy quip on the frontpage to give it more attention.
Weather and time of day play such an integral role in the combat and it makes wonderful use of the DS capabilities without going all gimmick(like blowing in the micwhich regretfully is in the game, but as a cute stealth diversion). So far it blows right past Rocket Slime and Castlevania as the best adventure-ish hack-em up on the DS. Yea, pushing A seems to do little to help the text speed, but pushing B speeds through multiple dialogue boxes at extreme speeds, making it too easy to miss pertinent info. It’s happened to me a few times. The crafting essentially seems to involve grinding or buying specific junk parts to upgrade weapon stats. Towns seems to have a junk dealer which explains what parts are needed, and you can buy some of the stuff, but others require grinding certain enemies I think. You are able to check out a beastiary in town to see what mobs drop what so you know what to grind, that’s my best guess.
I haven’t done any crafting yet, but I plan to start soon and this is the method I am going by for now.Make sure to ‘use’ any junk parts you snag from drops in your inventory to see what they are(which also moves them out of your cramped inventory into the junk page, making room for healing baubles). Yea, I find the game quite nice looking as well.
Would be nice if there were more animation to the backdrops(trees blowing in the wind and whatnot). Everything is nicely detailed, but very static.A neat effect is during the rain where the top screen has these 3D droplets of rainfall that pour onto the gameplay screen(in pixel form). It may sound a bit jarring, but the effect is kinda cool. Also, the sunset of the top screen looks great.I do wish there was a quick way to change the topscreen from map to weather.
Nakatomi plaza movie. Holly's not going anywhere. Hans and his boys have plans of their own and the firepower to back them up.
The Mode-7 ish map works nice, but menu sifting to see it breaks the action too much. Select button seems to do nothing and would have been perfect for this.Oh and I’m definately gonna track down a copy of Boktai 1 or 2 after this. BDGE:So, this could be the best game no one on the forum is buying or playingI bought it! I just haven’t played it yet but I hope to start this weekend.I really loved the Boktai games too. Was working some shiftwork last year so I had off during the daytime which made it much easier (and nicer) to sit outside and play them.
Verizon fios quantum gateway router alternative. The sunlight mechanic was very cool and cleverly implemented but I’m glad they ditched it since now that I’m back to a “normal” schedule I wouldn’t be able to play it much the old way.
